SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 104

(By Senators Snyder, Miller, Browning, Foster, Jenkins, Kirkendoll, Klempa, McCabe, Williams and Sypolt)

[Originating in the Committee on Government Organization]

 

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to study the need to increase homestead exemption on real property and the fiscal effect on state and local government.

    Whereas, The current homestead exemption on real property was established in 1982; and

    Whereas, The taxes on real property have increased; and

    Whereas, The exemption is not helping the citizens of West Virginia it intended to help; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to study the need to increase the homestead exemption on real property and the fiscal effect on state and local government; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2013, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
