A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §24-6-6c, relating to additional dedicated fees for 911.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

            That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §24-6-6c, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 6. LOCAL EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SYSTEM.

§24-6-6c. Authorization of additional local 911 fees.

            (a) Effective July 1, 2015, any county commission may authorize the collection of an additional enhanced county 911 fee not to exceed $1 per month per wireless subscriber and fee not to exceed $1per month per each voice over Internet protocol subscriber who resides in that county. Such fees are in addition to fees outlined in section six (b) of this article; however, the additional fees assessed herein shall be collected by the Public Service Commission in the same manner as provided in this article for other fees and returned specifically to the county which authorized the additional fee.

            (b) All additional funds received pursuant to this section shall be restricted in use, specifically dedicated to the operation, maintenance and personnel costs associated with the operational needs of the county 911 center of the county authorizing and generating such additional fees.

 

 

 


            NOTE: This bill authorizes county commissions to authorize the collection of additional fees, not to exceed $1 per subscriber of wireless phones and Internet voice over protocol lines.
