HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 95

(By Delegates Pushkin, D. Jeffries, Rowe, and Barach)

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number (10815), carrying CR 52, known as New Hope Road, over Blue Creek in Kanawha County, the “Clemmer Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge”.

Whereas, Three brothers, Eugene Lloyd Clemmer, Arthur Wayland Clemmer and Ashton Price Clemmer, the sons of James Harold Clemmer and Iva Gertrude Price Clemmer, were born and raised at Blue Creek in Kanawha County; all three of these brothers served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II; and

Whereas, U. S. Army PVT Ashton Price Clemmer was born on August 3, 1910; he served in the U.S. Army in Company K, 315th Infantry during World War II; and

Whereas, U.S. Army SGT Arthur Wayland Clemmer was born February 19, 1917, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II; he was married to Hazel Smith Clemmer and worked for Columbia Gas; and

Whereas, U.S. Marine Corp SGT Eugene Lloyd Clemmer was born on February 9, 1919; he was a pipefitter at Kaiser Aluminum in Jackson County for 13 years and was a member of the United Steel Workers; and

Whereas, U. S. Army PVT Ashton Price Clemmer died on December 5, 1961 in Kanawha County; U.S. Army SGT Arthur Wayland Clemmer died March 14, 1984 in Kanawha County; and U.S. Marine Corp SGT Eugene Lloyd Clemmer died January 27, 1974 in Jackson County; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U. S. Army PVT Ashton Price Clemmer, U.S. Army SGT Arthur Wayland Clemmer, and U.S. Marine Corp SGT Eugene Lloyd Clemmer and each of their contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number (10815), carrying CR 52, known as New Hope Road, over Blue Creek in Kanawha County, the “Clemmer Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the “Clemmer Brothers WWII Veterans Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
