HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 40

(By Delegates White, Marcum, Moore and L. Phillips)




Requesting the Division of Highways to name bridge number 24-1-3.58 on Route 1 in McDowell County, the "Estel R. Stacy World War II Navy Veteran Memorial Bridge".
     Whereas, Mr. Stacy was born on June 12, 1925, in Panther to James and Lydia Roberts Stacy; and
     Whereas, Mr. Stacy was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, served aboard the USS Jenkins and USS Fletcher in the Pacific Theater where he participated in seventeen major campaigns; and
     Whereas, After an honorable discharge in 1946, Mr. Stacy joined the U. S. Army National Guard 150th Armored Calvary in Welch; and
     Whereas, Mr. Stacy retired as a coal miner and was a former president of the UMWA Local Union 1078 of District 17; and
     Whereas, Mr. Stacy was a member of the Isaban Baptist Church, served as a troop master for Boy Scout Troop 434 of Isaban and was actively involved with the Shawnee Parkway Commission with his special friend, William Sanders; and    
     Whereas, Mr. Stacy died on December 17, 1997, at the Princeton Community Hospital; and
     Whereas, It is fitting to honor Mr. Stacy for his commitment, dedication and service to his country and his state; therefore, be it
     Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
     That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 24-1-3.58 on Route 1 in McDowell County, the "Estel R. Stacy World War II Navy Veteran Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
     Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "Estel R. Stacy World War II Navy Veteran Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
     Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and the family of Estel R. Stacy.
