HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 26

Requesting the Division of Highways to name the section of Route 3 and Route 214 where they come together to create a triangular area in Yawkey in Lincoln County, the "Army Corporal Richard D. McGhee Memorial Triangle".
     Whereas, Corporal McGhee was born on October 10, 1947 and lived in Yawkey in Lincoln County when he enlisted in the United States Army; and
     Whereas, Corporal McGhee served his country during the most dangerous time of the Vietnam War as did his brother, Samuel W. McGhee who also served in the Army during the Vietnam War; and
     Whereas, Corporal McGhee died in the battle of Dak To on November 18, 1967 during combat operations in Kontum Province while serving with Mortar Platoon, Company D, 4th Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade; and
     Whereas, Corporal McGhee was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, along with the Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and
     Whereas, Corporal McGhee's unit decorations included the Presidential Unit Citation for the Battle of Dak To, the Meritorious Unit Commendation and The Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm for Vietnam Services; and
     Whereas, It is fitting to honor and remember Corporal McGhee for his commitment, dedication, courageous action and ultimate sacrifice to his country and his state; therefore, be it
     Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
     That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name the section of Route 3 and Route 214 where they come together to create a triangular area in Yawkey in Lincoln County, the "Army Corporal Richard D. McGhee Memorial Triangle"; and, be it
     Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the triangular area as the "Army Corporal Richard D. McGhee Memorial Triangle"; and, be it
     Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and the family of Corporal Richard D. McGhee.
