HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 19

Requesting the Division of Highways to name that portion of Route 85 in Van South to Van Park as the “Capt. Jackie Lee Dickens, USAF, and PFC. Kent Howell, USMC, Memorial Highway.”

    Whereas, Capt. Jackie Lee Dickens was born on July 6, 1940, in Danville, West Virginia; and

    Whereas, Capt. Jackie Lee Dickens served in the Air Force in South Vietnam and began his tour of duty on August 13, 1968; and

    Whereas, Capt. Jackie Lee Dickens was killed in action on June 2, 1969;

    Whereas, PFC. Kent Howell was born on March 30, 1949, in Van, West Virginia;

    Whereas, PFC. Kent Howell served in the United States Marine Corps in South Vietnam;

    Whereas, PFC. Kent Howell was killed in action on September 29, 1968; and

    Whereas, PFC. Kent Howell is survived by his brother Mitch Howell; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the West Virginia Legislature:

    That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways to name that portion of Route 85 in Van South to Van Park as the “Capt. Jackie Lee Dickens, USAF, and PFC. Kent Howell, USMC, Memorial Highway”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs, identifying the roadways as the “Capt. Jackie Lee Dickens, USAF, and PFC. Kent Howell, USMC, Memorial Highway”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the House forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and to Mitch Howell.
