A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §52-1-11b, relating to jury service; permitting that current members of the National Guard or Reserves may be excused from jury duty.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


That the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended and reenacted by adding thereto a new section, designated §52-1-11b, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 1.  PETIT JURIES.

§52‑1‑11b.  Excuses from jury service for National Guard members.

(a) A person who is not disqualified for jury service under section eight of this article may be excused from jury service by the court if the person is a current member of the National Guard or Reserves.   

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to permit a court to excuse a member of the National Guard or Reserves from jury duty.
