A BILL to amended article five, chapter five of the code of West
Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated section five,
relating to removing salary increases based upon merit and
providing annual cost-of-living increases, not to exceed a
maximum of five hundred dollars, for state employees.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article five, chapter five of the code of West Virginia,
one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended by
adding thereto a new section, designated section five, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 5. SALARY INCREASE FOR STATE EMPLOYEES.
§5-5-5. Granting cost-of-living adjustments.
Effective for the fiscal year beginning the first day of July,
two thousand one, every eligible employee with three or more years
of service shall receive a cost-of-living or percentage salary increase not to exceed five hundred dollars in any fiscal year.
These increases are in addition to any across-the-board salary
increases which may be granted in any fiscal year by the
Legislature. These cost-of-living increases are to replace any
salary increases based on merit.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to remove salary increase
based upon merit and provide annual cost-of-living increases, not
to exceed a maximum of $500, for state employees.
