A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §8-15-9a, relating to
mandating paid fire departments of Class I and Class II
municipalities be in full compliance with NFPA 1710 by the
thirtieth day of June, two thousand six.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §8-15-9a, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 15. FIRE FIGHTING; FIRE COMPANIES AND DEPARTMENTS; CIVIL
SERVICE FOR PAID FIRE DEPARTMENTS.
PART III. PAID FIRE DEPARTMENTS.
§8-15-9a. Compliance with safety performance code for Class I and
Class II municipalities.
(a) The Legislature finds that the State Fire Commission has
accepted NFPA 1710 as the standard in this state for professional
fire departments.
(b) All Class I and Class II municipalities are required to be in compliance with NFPA 1710 with respect to the paid fire
departments on or before the thirtieth day of June, two thousand
six.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to mandate Class I and
Class II municipalities comply with NFPA 1710 for the fire
departments on or before June 30, 2006. NFPA 1710 contains minimum
requirements relating to the organization and deployment of fire
suppression, emergency medical operations and special operations to
the public by substantially all career fire departments.
This section is new; therefore, strike-throughs and
underscoring have been omitted.
