A BILL to amend the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §61-10-24, relating
to prohibiting the distribution of RU-486 by any
administrator, employee or other official of the college or
university; and providing a penalty for violations.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §61-10-24, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 10. CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC POLICY.
§61-10-24. Distribution of RU-486 by a college or university or
by any administrator or other official of the
college or university on a college or university
campus prohibited.
An administrator, official, contractor or other employee of any public college or university of this state may not make
available, sell, administer or otherwise distribute the
abortifacient, RU-486, on any public college or university campus
of this state. Any person who violates the provisions of this
section, is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof,
shall be fined no less than one thousand nor more than five
thousand dollars.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to prohibit the
distribution of RU-486, the abortifacient, by state public college
and university administrators, contractors, officials and
employees. The bill also prescribes a criminal fine for
violations.
